laverath's story

laverath the manaphy was the very first rng manipulation hunt that i ever completed successfully! like reides, they're named after my dnd oc - reides laverath. this is because reides is a prince in his dnd setting, and manaphy is known as the prince of the sea!
manaphy is my favourite mythical pokemon and, for a long time, i didn't think that shiny manaphy was even obtainable. this is because if you get a manaphy egg from pokemon ranger and trade it over to a gen4 game, that egg is scripted to never hatch as a shiny for the gen4 game that it's being traded to. HOWEVER! you can actually get it to hatch as a shiny if you trade the unhatched egg from that gen4 game to another gen4 game. this is because the manaphy's shininess is linked to the specific tid/sid combination of the first game you trade it to - so if you send the egg to another game, your trainer has a different tid/sid combo and you can essentially work around the shiny lock. of course, you still have the 1/8192 odds, so the process of actually shiny hunting for one is... well, extremely tedious, haha.
i did around 700 encounters by trading manaphy eggs over from a copy of pokemon ranger. since i was making really slow progress, i decided that i'd try out rng manipulation. it was a lot harder than i thought it'd be, to be honest! it took some research and i got it wrong a good few times lol - but, ultimately, i managed to hit the exact seed and frame for my ideal shiny manaphy... and i hatched laverath! it was glorious. nowadays, there is a comparatively easier way to shiny hunt for manaphy rather than going for the time consuming trade workaround (namely, via arbitrary code execution) - but back when i hatched laverath, that method wasn't known (or popularized, i should say). you can also now get a shiny manaphy as a pokemon home reward for completing the bdsp pokedex. i'm actually really glad that these methods didn't exist back when i got my gen4 shiny manaphy though, because i cherish the rng manipulation skills that laverath taught me! they'd go on to aid me with rng hunting for other pokemon, including THREE other ribbon masters: reides, stormspike, and canto. pretty fitting that the prince of the sea ended up having so much influence, huh?
laverath took on the ribbon master challenge alongside stormspike the croconaw and syklemos the raikou. they were a trio taking on the pokemon world by storm!
laverath's title is the gorgeous royal.
